Universiti Malaya has 13 residential colleges — 11 on the main campus and 2 off-campus — plus the International House and Apartment Jepun. Together these accommodate approximately 12,000 students per semester, about 65% of all undergraduate enrolees.
First-degree local undergraduate students are the primary eligible group. Postgraduate students may also apply subject to availability. International students should apply through the UM Global Mobility Centre.
The residence fee covers accommodation, water bills, electricity bills, and UM Wi-Fi. Rooms are fully furnished with beds, wardrobes, study tables, chairs, bookshelves, and curtains. Pillows and bed sheets are provided.
Students may indicate a preferred college during application, but final placement is determined by UM based on availability and faculty guidelines. Medical students go to KK6, PALAPES to KK5. Some colleges are zoned to specific faculties.
Approved appliances: hair dryer (RM10/sem), laptop (RM20/sem), printer (RM20/sem), table fan (RM50/sem), study lamp (free). All other electrical appliances are strictly prohibited and will be confiscated during unannounced spot checks.
