KK1 Tuanku Abdul Rahman (ASTAR) – First Residential College Universiti Malaya
Kolej Kediaman Pertama (KK1), known as ASTAR UM, is the oldest residential college at Universiti Malaya, established in 1959, with a maximum capacity of 800 students.
The First Residential College was established in 1959 with three blocks (A, B, C) housing an initial cohort of just 28 students — largely from Arts and Engineering faculties transferred from UM's Singapore branch. In 1971, Blocks D and E were added, bringing maximum capacity to 800 residents.
The college was renamed Tuanku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) in honour of the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. Located at 825, Lingkungan Budi, the college office telephone is 03-7956 8922.
KK1 offers a cafeteria, study rooms, sports courts, computer labs, laundry service, and a convenience shop. ASTAR UM is known for vibrant inter-college sports competitions, cultural events, and active student organisations. Its strong alumni network reflects decades of community-building and leadership development.
KK1 ASTAR UM remains one of the most sought-after residential colleges at Universiti Malaya, thanks to its historical significance, strong community spirit, and comprehensive amenities.
